Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath Preview (PC)

There's no way to keep Kane down.

Kane's Wrath will shed some light on the mystery surrounding Kane's ressurection.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars brought players back to a retro feel of the original C&C while using the latest innovations in technology and gameplay. Its first expansion, Kane's Wrath, will turn on the time machine and backstep the story a few years to fill in the missing time between Tiberium Sun Firestorm and Tiberium Wars. The single player campaign follows Nod's twenty year rise to power, covering Kane's second resurrection, later overlapping C&C 3's storyline and ends somewhere in the future during Kane's "ascension."

Nod will be getting a few new toys to drive around in, and players should welcome the return of the artillery piece, except now it's equipped with stealth capabilities. Sneaking a couple of these near an enemy base could really ruin someone's day. A super-unit called the Awakened, a cyborg remnant from CABAL (Tiberium Sun Firestorm), can mow down infantry with its high-powered machine gun and launch EMP bombs to disable incoming vehicles. Further rounding things out will be the Reckoner, Nod's version of an APC, which deploys into a fortified bunker where infantry can fire from.

Did You Know?

Kane's Wrath marks the first wrath in the Command & Conquer series, but other forms of entertainment have dealt with the subject as well. These classics include:

  • The Grapes of Wrath
  • World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
  • Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
  • ... and more!
Although the expansion will focus specifically on Nod, both GDI and the Scrin will be receiving their own updates. GDI's weakness against air units will be addressed by a new unit called the Slingshot, a light armor anti-air hover tank. Although its four barrels can shred aircraft, it cannot attack ground units. Furthermore, the Global Defense Initiative will be getting a heavy gunship called the Hammerhead, which fires machine guns with unlimited ammunition, so it never needs to return to base to rearm. By itself, it cannot defend against other air units, however it can be loaded with infantry and gains their attributes, similar to how the APC works. So, loading up with rocket troops may help overcome its air-to-air weakness. Those who thought the old Sonic Tank was lost somewhere in GDI's vault of forgotten technology were sadly mistaken. The ear-splitting vehicle will be making a comeback, and can destroy multiple targets unfortunate enough to be standing in a row.
