The soundtrack is nourishment for the ears, a stunning array of tunes that add to the overall ambience of the game. Long-time fans will recognize a few of these melodies and cherish them. As a bonus, you can also unlock songs from the original Dracula X, a nod to all you old-schoolers out there.
Once the main quest is complete, there are plenty of goodies to enjoy. The first is "bonus" character Maria Renard, a twelve-year old girl who can magically summon animals to attack enemies. The second is the original Rondo of Blood game, pixel for pixel. It's translated into English for the first time and supported by some truly appalling voicework, but it's still a fun adventure worth spending time with. Finally, there's a terrific translation of the hit PlayStation game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, complete with better dialogue and the ability to play as the character Maria.
Even though the voice work leans on the insufferable side, Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles is a must-have for fans and newcomers curious about the series' old-school roots. Its sleek visuals, fun gameplay and jam packed extra goodies make it a compilation that clearly doesn't suck – unlike Dracula himself.
