Call of Juarez resembles an archaeological dig -- in order to locate treasure, players must dig through lots of crap. Techland did acceptable work with the game's Western theme, particularly through level designs and gritty dialogue. However, the gameplay constantly teeters between awkward and awesome. The platforming and stealth segments, along with a few gun movements frustrate, while the straightforward shooting feels righteously cool. Western lovers who can tolerate the uneven gameplay should enjoy the online multiplayer and unlockable extras. Everyone else should rent it first.
