Normally a mature game like Call of Duty: World at War gets anti-violence protests orchestrated by parents, religious groups, or soon-to-be-disbarred lawyers.

That changed this week as 19 year-old Breanna Lucci, president of the Animal Rights Club at Academy of Notre Dame high school in Massachusetts, started a petition against shooting the game's vicious attack dogs. First word of the petition was published in the regional Lowell Sun newspaper.

The petition came to her after watching her older college-aged brother play the Mature rated game. As Lucci remembers, "My little 12-pound Pomeranian, Winnie the Pooh, is sitting next to him, and I'm thinking, 'This looks horrible!'"

Players are sometimes attacked by dogs in Call of Duty and must make a choice between snapping its neck or dying.

Yes, she started a petition to send a message to Activision that shooting any animal should not be a form of entertainment -- even vile, vicious dogs going for your soldier's juglar. While Lucci has yet to make any demands of the game's publisher to lessen the violence, her 100-signature petition may lack the bite needed to make any significant change.
