Answering the call of duty while on the road.

People generally don't associate the Nintendo DS with a fast-paced game like Call of Duty, but that could change when the action game releases on the handheld system. Featuring a single player campaign that spans 11 missions and a story that runs parallel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, players can expect quite a bit from this handheld game.
Obviously, the graphics can't compete with the awe-inspiring console or PC versions, but the developers packed a ton of Call of Duty excitement onto the two small screens, with smooth and consistent frame rates. Levels feature various locales such as the deserts of the Middle East or aboard a freighter ship, and players can fire from catwalks and other multi-tiered structures. Vehicle sequences, like a high-speed Humvee chase and a chance to rain havoc down on enemies from a Blackhawk helicopter should keep things intense.
Controls make extensive use of the stylus, which aim the weapon with pinpoint precision and work a number of different controls. Occasional mini games pop up, where players will need to use the stylus to disarm or plant explosives. The D-pad controls movement while either trigger fires the weapons. As an added feature, D-pad controls were mapped to the four buttons on the right side so that left-handed players won't be left out. Double-tapping up on the D-pad will send the character into a sprint, while tapping down will order him to crouch. Using the stylus to double-tap on the screen will pick up weapons left on the battlefield or bring up the gun's iron sights for increased accuracy.
Multiplayer supports up to four players across seven maps and four modes if each player has a cartridge. The game will work with only one cartridge, but everyone will be limited to only two small maps.
Bringing the fast-paced excitement from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to the DS is no small endeavor and we can't wait to play it. If Activision pulls this off, it could change how we look at the system.
