If you need something to occupy the hours while you wait for the TPS reports to come in, Cake Mania 2 might please you. But then again, there are tons of online games that give you just as much, if not more enjoyment to fill your empty hours, and you don't have to pay for them.
In Cake Mania 2, you play as Jill, a character who runs a bakery with her grandparents but dreams of something more. That something more comes in the form of her entrepreneurial friends and their almost failed business ventures. Since cakes essentially make everything better (except for this game) Jill must rush to save the day, giving Cake Mania 2 a plethora of different levels, but not much else.
Point and click is the name of the game in this PC release; taking orders, clicking for a cake on the oven, frosting the cake and handing it to your patrons. Pretty much the only exciting part of Cake Mania 2 is the quick impatience of your customers, who will up and disappear if they wait too long for their confectionary treats. Furthermore, model hot Jill doesn't only boast the best cakes in town, her flapjacks also look pretty sweet. But enough about her. You'll see enough of her in 200 plus levels of cake baking bliss.
As in real life, different people like different cakes, and when those people get pissed, you lose money. While Jill operates her different bakery scenarios, she'll have an earnings goal for the day. When customers get angry and leave, Jill loses money. Pretty much anything but full delivery and perfection of said cake loses you money. The game is unforgiving, making it less than ideal for the kiddies. If you accidentally hit the wrong shaped cake button when creating your culinary beauties, you can't stop the baking. You have to wait until the cake is done, click on the cake, click on the trashcan and go back to the oven and start again. One mistake can lose you a rack of customers and ultimately, the game.
In addition, gameplay is extremely buggy. If you wiggle your mouse at the wrong time, you'll freeze the game and your computer. If there were testers who didn't jump out windows after playing this train wreck, they needed to be little more thorough.
Cake Mania 2 is nothing new and certainly nothing you should pay for. The gameplay, graphics and concepts are as done as the cakes you hand to customers. If you want something simple, you can easily find a much more entertaining play online and you won't have to drop your hard-earned dollars on it. Bottom line, unless your kid wants a boring game to play, steer clear. These cakes are not as delicious as advertised.
