Aside from the barrage of Scene-It! releases (including a forthcoming one for Xbox 360) and the occasional plug-and-play peripheral, you really don't see many trivia games on the market. Sony probably saw an opportunity, particularly with the forthcoming holiday season, and opted to release Buzz! The Mega Quiz here in the States. This is your run-of-the-mill trivia game show, with up to eight participants answering questions to build up enough points to win the game. It's a fun, quick game for multiplayer get-togethers, but fails to establish itself as a must-have.

Buzz! The Mega Quiz's press release states that it has over 5,000 questions, but it doesn't convey this particular feature that well. We found ourselves answering questions asked just a few rounds earlier. One minute you answer a question about Hollywood directors and the next it shifts inexplicably to whose mugs are on Mount Rushmore or some offbeat sports question. This does mix up the game as far as randomization goes, but we don't think it would've been too much to ask to have some categories. Furthermore, most of these questions are pretty easy.

Buzz!'s presentation never comes alive. The visuals are relatively simple, with a game show host resembling a Sesame Street character and a dim-witted (yet beautiful) assistant offering occasional tips on the side. Other characters are just mainstream stereotypes, from the creepy-looking mime to the rootin'-tootin' cowboy. The questions are easy to answer, with multiple choices and occasional video images. The in-game audio is nothing spectacular, mostly made up of quiz show music and occasional crowd reactions. (For instance, they laugh when you screw up and select the wrong answer.). The host, however, has some funny lines.
