Burnout Paradise Demo Now Available (XB360)

Criterion said that the next Burnout would be a reinvention of the series... our first ride feels a lot like Need for Speed.

Looking for a taste of the EA's upcoming racing meets crashing game Burnout Paradise? As of this morning, Xbox 360 Live Gold members and PlayStation 3 owners can download the game's demo.

The 835 MB demo says that players can connect to other players for races... although none of our friends wer currently playing the demo during our breakfast download.

One interesting thing to note is that players with the PlayStation Eye or Xbox Live Vision cameras will be asked to add a mugshot of themselves to add to their license.

Also, while Burnout 3: Takedown players voiced their dislike of the ominously annoying voiceover and real-life KROQ jockey, DJ Stryker, the demo trailer introduces a new, but seemingly less annoying, DJ Atomica.

In the demo, you start with a car from a junk yard and must local a repair shop on the map. Once repaired, holding down the brake and acceleration buttons will initiate an event. We tried to race to a location in 1 minute 20 seconds but failed to make the time due to the simple fact that we were more focused on the map then our actual racing due to a spider web of roads. In our short morning experience as long time Burnout fans, it feels more like the Need for Speed series than Burnout. Hopefully, playing the full demo will make us feel like this is a true Burnout experience.

Burnout Paradise for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is due on January 22, 2008.
