Burnout Paradise's Party Pack, available this week for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, is a multiplayer-oriented contest where you and up to seven friends compete in a number of activities throughout Paradise City. The nature of these activities ranges from speed runs to surviving oncoming traffic for a certain amount of time to performing ludicrous stunts. Your mission is to complete these tasks either as quickly as possible or with the most distance. Whoever acquires the highest numbers wins.

This is a terrific addition to the Burnout Paradise universe, as it expands the game's multiplayer component. The original game already has online racing through Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, of course. However, the Party Pack activities are quicker to play through and don't require a high amount of survival skills. The only downfall is that it's offline only, and we hope that developer Criterion will expand the Party Pack for online play.

Along with the Party Pack, Burnout Paradise also has a couple of other crucial additions coming within the next few days. The Restart option will be a sigh of relief to some gamers. Rather than racing back to the start of an event if you screw up too much, you simply need to go into the menu, select restart and return to the starting line.

Finally, there's the in-game store menu. Rather than having to quit the game and go in order to download the latest updates through the Xbox Live/PlayStation Network, you'll simply grab the content through the store. This includes the Cagney update (with a variety of vehicles and new challenges), the Burnout Bikes (which are fun to play in their own right) and the upcoming fantasy vehicles pack, including facsimiles of the ECTO-1 from Ghostbusters and the DeLorean from Back To the Future.

If you're a Burnout fan, you shouldn't hesitate to check out the Party Pack. Even without online play, it adds a new degree to the Burnout universe that makes it more enjoyable with friends. It's certainly less expensive than a demolition derby. If you're a PC owner, you can also access this content through the new Burnout Paradise: Ultimate Box retail release, now in stores.
