Dedicated server support for PC games with multiplayer has gained more importance recently thanks to Infinity Ward's sudden decision to dump such support for Modern Warfare 2. Digital Illusions has gone out of their way to point out that they will have dedicated server support for their upcoming FPS Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (althought it sounds like they will force PC players to pay for the privilage via one of their "partners") and next week's release of Futurmark's Shattered Horizon will have dedicated server support as well (they will host servers at launch and release the actual code for everyone else sometime after the game's release).Eurogamer reports that Splash Damage's next game, the sci-fi shooter Brink, will also offer dedicated server support for the PC version while the console versions stick with peer-to-peer set-ups for their ports. And what about Aliens Vs Predator, the upcoming Rebellion-developed movie-based game? Computer and Video Games tried to get a straight answer from a Rebellion rep but he did a good job dodging the issue, saying only, ". . . the game is still quite a way from release so I guess there are other things to be determined during that time."
