On Thursday, EA and Steven Spielberg announced that their award-winning Boom Blox game for Wii will be getting a sequel named Boom Blox Bash Party. While the game will continue its simple blox busting action as players throw balls, more blox and create explosions, the game adds more multiplayer options and over 400 new levels that include puzzles in space and under water.

"Boom Blox Bash Party is a wild social gaming experience," said Steven Spielberg. "We know families and friends really enjoyed playing the original Boom Blox together, so we designed more explosive multiplayer experiences with Boom Blox Bash Party."

Seasoned fans of the series will find new block types (including virus and conveyor blox) as well as cylinder and wedge shapes. And for the first time, players will be able to stack, throw or launch blox characters, which previously cheered on the player's in-game efforts. Of course, Boom Blox Bash Party adds more destruction including cannon, paint ball and slingshot tools.

With over 400 puzzles, blox fans with creative streaks can make their own levels in Create Mode. Once their masterpiece is done, they can upload the level through their Wii's WiFi connection. Once uploaded, friends and others can download the levels.

As the name implies, the sequel adds more party options including team-based challenges when players want to work cooperatively -- there are still modes for head-to-head competition. Although it appears that players have found new ways to play those single player levels as Amir Rahimi, Boom Blox Bash Party's Senior Producer told GameDaily that, "One thing that we found interesting was that families would actually play single player mode together, and find that to be one of the most fun ways to play the game, they would pass the Wii Remote around."

Boom Blox Bash Party for Wii is due to release Spring 2009.
