This handy field guide will help Plasmid users get on their way to taking full advantage of their genetic modifications.

Although Bioshock packs a host of cool weapons, including a revolver, a Tommy gun and a beefed up wrench, none of these instruments of death eclipse the plasmids. Without these special abilities, you might as well leave Rapture and go for a swim (with the fishes, see). With that being said, here's a list of the most important plasmids and what they're good for.
Electro Bolt
This is the first plasmid you come across, and thankfully, one of the most effective. This fistful of lightning enables you to shoot electric bolts from your fingertips, which comes in handy for short-circuiting doors, thus enabling you to gain access to different areas and score lots of free potato chips.
In addition to using it to nab free stuff, you can also fry enemies. Just one blast stops a splicer or Big Daddy in its tracks, if only for a few seconds. With the baddie immobilized, you can unload countless rounds or just whack them with the wrench. Furthermore, zapping someone while they stand in water kills them instantly. Liquid and electricity work good like that.
Also Seen In: The Star Wars movies. -- The Emperor uses his Force lightning to fry Luke Skywalker, Mace Windu and even Darth Vader. Even better, he doesn't need to constantly inject himself to make it work.
Enrage
Turn your enemies against each other with this very useful plasmid. Hitting just one of your foes with this red ball, which explodes in a bloody mess upon impact, causes him or her to turn on their compatriots, which diverts attention from you.
Also Seen In: Cops -- People always find some excuse (however lame) to beat the hell out of each other. Plasmids don't play a role, but we like to think they do.
Telekinesis
Great for when you want to pick things up, but you're too lazy to put your back into it. Pressing the left trigger lets you maneuver things in mid-air, which works great against missile firing turrets and grenade throwing mutants. By catching explosives and hurling them back, you can clear debris and drain lots of health from enemies, including Big Daddy.
See Telekinesis in Action!
Also Seen In: The Star Wars movies. -- They call if the Force, but it's the same thing. Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Yoda pick all sorts of crap up and then wave it around with their hands.
