Report: Take-Two May Sign BioShock Creator to Incentive Laden Contract (PC)

2K Boston's Ken Levine is apparently close to working out a new contract with Take-Two, which would offer him a points-based compensation depending on how well BioShock 2 or other games he makes sell.

Last month we reported that publisher Take-Two Interactive may be renegotiating its contract with Ken Levine, the man behind the underwater blockbuster BioShock, which has quickly become one of Take-Two's most valuable IPs next to GTA.

As was mentioned previously, the deal would give Levine more creative control over projects, but he still wouldn't be paid like the Rockstar folks. However, according to a new report in the New York Post, the new contract "could include the potential to earn points - much like actors do with movies - based on how much business the next installment of BioShock and any other games that he develops produce."

"Levine delivered a big hit for Take-Two and they want to give him a good deal going forward," a source told the paper. "But BioShock isn't Grand Theft Auto. It's not even in the same universe."

An incentive/points-based payout is something that more game companies are considering, said the report, which noted that the industry is "moving toward a points-based compensation structure for developers of about 1 percent to 3 percent of a game's total sales."
