Beyond Good & Evil was a critically well-received adventure title when it released in 2003. Despite the warm reception, the game fizzled at retail through a combination of its unconventional story, direct competition from other similar titles from Ubisoft (like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time) and generally getting lost in the retail shuffle during the industry's busy fourth quarter. The retail price of Beyond Good & Evil was quickly slashed, and planned sequels were put on indefinite hold.
It is for this reason that today's revelation that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is under development came as a pleasant shock to most gamers. While series creator Michel Ancel said two weeks ago to Jeux Video that pre-production on the game had begun, a teaser trailer at the conclusion of Ubidays 2008 in Paris today confirmed the title's existence. No platforms for Beyond Good & Evil 2 have been announced.
