PopCap Games announced today the results of a poll of over 1,100 AT&T wireless customers. The results of this study showed that 57 percent of those polled play mobile titles on their cell phones. Mobile gamers are split evenly between men and women, though men play the games more frequently while women tend to play for longer periods.

"Adoption of mobile games continues to grow, but conversion rate (free to paid players) remains low," observed Michael Cai, vice president of video games research at Interpret LLC, a leading media research and analysis firm. "Business model diversification is one way to address this conundrum. In addition, more innovative games, like Peggle, and fewer clones and knock-offs, are among the keys to unlocking the potential of the mobile gaming market."

Half said they play games as a distraction from daily life issues and the same number said they play during work hours. Roughly 60 percent of those polled said they play mobile games at least once a month, while 40 percent said they played every week or even more often. Tetris and Bejeweled were the most popular games with roughly 20 percent apiece, while Puzzle and Card/Casino games proved to be the most played genres, at 66 percent and 51 percent, respectively.
