Bee Movie Game Review (WII)

Time to give those flowers some business.

Welcome to the life of Barry B. Benson, a bee that wants more than a boring life of work. In Bee Movie Game, you play as Barry as he recounts his life's adventures to a news anchor named Jeanette Chung. From being a pollen jockey to a cab driver, not to mention working in the honey factory, Barry's done it all and Jeannette's aiming to show it all to her viewers. That's where you come in, thanks to Activision's Bee Movie Game for Wii.

Mini games abound, as well as fun interactions with fellow bees, job centers and humans. Do you see some sad looking flowers? Pollinate those suckers and make the world grow. Want to earn some extra honey drops? Pick up odd jobs around town that also help you to unlock more levels in the story mode.

While the game caters to children, some of the controls seem a little complicated for the younger types. You aim and shoot with the Wii remote and dodge attacks by shaking the nunchuck, a move that sends Barry into an evasive barrel roll. Aerial combat is exceptionally messy, as Barry's clunky flying abilities make it hard to keep targets in view, much less shoot them. The levels are also pretty huge, and while it seems normal to have a city within the hive, what isn't normal is the fact that Barry can't fly indoors. Instead, he takes a car. Makes sense to us.

Being able to choose jobs and tasks is a definite bonus. At every job station, you can choose new things to do that will earn you Honey Drops as well as clout, gaining you access into new and fun adventures. However, not all of Barry's adventures are fun. Pollination is just about the most mind-numbing activity known to man, but I'm sure any child would love making pretty flowers for hours on end.

Bee Movie Game isn't the best game in the world, but it's not your average movie-turned-video game trash either. It's an entertaining play that carries plenty of challenge for young gamers. If you've got kids, or are a fan of children's games, it's definitely a game you should play. Just make sure you wipe that honey off your controller before it gets too sticky.
