Even in the future, war is hell. Luckily, it's great action too! In Battlefield 2142, players will fight it out for control of checkpoints like in the previous Battlefield the only difference is now you'll have more futuristic weapons like walking tanks, hovering armored troop transports, and flying fortresses called Titans.

Although the game takes place in a futuristic setting, it isn't too unfamiliar from Battefield 2. The assault rifles may look a little different, but they still work the same way. Racking up kills and scoring points by taking check points will earn you additional gear, like an active camouflage system. There is a nice spread of vehicles, like the aforementioned walker which takes the place of the tank, and a high-speed vehicle that takes the place of the jeep. Although the latter vehicle doesn't have any weapons equipped, it seems designed specifically for running opponents over. The VTOL aircraft takes some getting used to, but offer pretty smooth control and speed critical to maneuvering in the air. Some vehicles (and some kits) are equipped with EMP bombs, which will temporarily disable vehicles and leave them vulnerable for attack.

One thing that is different from Battlefield 2 is the loss of the medic unit. Instead, assault infantry carry healing kits and deliberators to help the comrades up. It's a little funny because you still cry out medic when you fall over. Although it feels a lot like Battlefield 2 with futuristic weapons, the game feels much more fast paced. There are two modes of play. The first is the traditional Conquest mode, where players have to take over and control the most territories under an allotted time. The second, unique to 2142, is Titan mode, where giant flying fortresses cross the skies overhead. The goal is to lower the enemy Titan's shields and then destroy the Titan itself. This is done by taking over checkpoints which will intermittently launch rockets at the enemy. These rockets will eventually destroy the shields and start battering on the Titan's hull. Teams can destroy enemy Titans faster by actually boarding the fortresses after their shields are disabled. In these close quarter combat situations, invading parties have to land (either by aircraft or by launching drop pods) and then shoot their way through some narrow hallways. Then they have to destroy four force field control consoles one at a time before reaching the reactor. Once the reactor goes, the assault team will need to escape before celebrating their hard earned victory.

The future Battefield arrives late October, so keep yourself ready and prepare to fight!
