Part two has a lot in common with the first, but there are a few things to point out. First, the Wii remote functionality is spot on, allowing for easy targeting of enemies. The addition of naval units is a big plus as well. Those ocean battles are a blast, especially after sinking a few enemy boats in succession. Perhaps the best new feature that will get your attention, though, is the online component.

Through the Wi-Fi Connection, you can hook up against other Wii owners online and take part in some freakin' cool battles. Cooperative is just how it sounds, with you controlling one division while your friend handles another. You work hand-in-hand to keep each other's allies alive or you're toast. Those of you with competitive spirit should definitely invest some time in the Assault and Skirmish modes. Skirmish is just how it sounds, wiping out all of the enemies before they get you. Assault works in a more deliberate manner, as you must complete certain objectives to win the war. All of these are a lot of fun, despite having to enter separate Friend Codes to get with your buddies.

Not everything works accordingly. Moving the Nunchuk to jump and roll out of harm's way feels haphazard. Say you just want to duck and cover when you see incoming fire from a tank. Instead of rolling effectively, you jump up and take it right in the face. This should've gotten better attention to -- or at least given assignments on buttons on the remote. Finally, as fun as the multiplayer options are, they're online only. There's no split screen whatsoever.

These minor hitches aside, Battalion Wars 2 is an unexpectedly great sequel, one with precise controls, fine online multiplayer options and an above average presentation. While it isn't the best military game on the market, it still hits its targets – and that's good enough for a nice, shiny medal.
