If you've ever wanted to roam Gotham's streets as The Joker, now's your chance. Owners of the PS3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum will be able to download the character for free on the game's release date, June 23. While you won't be able to play as The Joker in the game's main storyline, the character will be available for Challenge Maps in the game (no details yet on what Challenge Maps are, but we imagine they will take advantage of The Joker's comical variety of skills).

No word yet on whether the Xbox 360 version will also have an exclusive Challenge Map character. We'd love to smash things up as the horrific Bane. This wouldn't be the first time publishers have made console-exclusive characters, either. Soul Calibur 4 on the 360 featured a playable Yoda, while the PlayStation 3 version featured Darth Vader. Both characters were later made available on the opposite console for a nominal fee.
