Financially beleaguered Atari and French parent company Infogrames could certainly use a blockbuster hit to boost their bottom line. New Infogrames CEO David Gardner believes the upcoming release of Alone in the Dark will be one such game.
Alone in the Dark is set for release on the Wii, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PC on June 24 (June 20 in Europe) and Gardner has a lot of faith in the game's potential. "Over the life of the product in this business year across platforms we are expecting [to sell] between 2 and 3 million units," he told Reuters. Infogrames' fiscal year ends next March.
Gardner is hoping to finally revitalize Infogrames so that it can at least break-even. "We want to stop losing money...This management's team number one goal is to get a business plan together that gets us to a break-even level," he said. Gardner did not give a target date of when Infogrames might reach that goal, but part of the strategy, he added, is to increase the revenue contribution from the U.S. market.
Along with former EA veteran Gardner, Infogrames also recently hired former Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios head Phil Harrison as its new president. At the time, Infogrames said that Gardner and Harrison together "form the basis of a transformational leadership team at Infogrames that will grow the Atari brand into a leading online game company."
