Alone in the Dark returns! (XB360)

Atari announces the latest in the long-standing survival horror series.

Atari has officially unveiled an all new Alone in the Dark videogame. Currently in development by Eden Games for both the Xbox 360 and the PC, this latest adventure in the long standing survival horror series is looking pretty bad ass, as the environments as well as the character models are creepy as all hell.

Unfortunately, today's announcement didn't come with any particular details about the game, other than it's scheduled for a 2007 release, which, considering all of the hardware and games that coming out this year, just seems really far away. There was also no mention of when it's going to arrive in stores, so for all we know, 2007 could mean October, 2007.

These days, Capcom's Resident Evil is known as the king of the survival horror genre. The publisher's certainly cornered the market, what with the plethora of Resident Evil games, toys, and comic books. However, Alone in the Dark is one of the true pioneers of horror-themed games. The original was released on the PC in 1992 and since that time the series has garnered its own cult following, though the franchise isn't as well known as Resident Evil or Konami's Silent Hill, and the 2005 Uwe Boll film of the same name didn't exactly help its reputation. But these screens are definitely gorgeous, and we're looking forward to seeing the game in motion. Hopefully, Atari has plans to demo Alone at the Dark at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.
