Sega announced new details about its upcoming squad-based shooter, Aliens: Colonial Marines. Based on the classic movie license from Twentieth Century Fox, the game will arrive for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 late in 2008.
Currently in development by Gearbox Software (Brothers in Arms), Aliens: Colonial Marines places gamers in the role of a United States Colonial Marine squad, which "must prepare to face an Aliens assault more intense and horrific than ever before." Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, both with writing credits on Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, crafted the game's storyline based on the feel of the original films.
While the team plans to use new gaming technology to create the game, Sega promises to capture the gritty look of space (including the insides of the abandoned Sulaco) as depicted in the James Cameron sci-fi epic. With that gritty vibe comes classic weaponry including pulse rifles, flamethrowers and new tools of the trade as the main character works to achieve elite status.
For multiplayer fans, Aliens: Colonial Marines will offer a four-player co-op mode where you and three other players assume different roles on the squad, each with a decisive task at hand they need to complete to finish each level. Sega promises more details about the game along with the promise to detail additional multiplayer modes later in the year.
