Gamers often get treated to the line that a story is "too big" to be contained in a single game, and therefore needs an entire trilogy to handle it. We see it with games like Halo and the upcoming Mass Effect. More often than not, it all ends up being a load of crap. Here are five reasons why players should groan in despair whenever a story needs to be continued.

Talk about cash cow -- when all is said and done, those that have played the entire Halo legacy will have spent some serious scratch, and that's not even accounting for possible limited edition purchases.

Remember Advent Rising? Hopefully not, but it would have been a trilogy if the first game hadn't been so damn terrible.
I'll ignore the fact that you're obviously a Bungie/HALO-hater. The article seems to have a limited blast radius of 2 franchises, which makes for an example-poor rant. But if the majority of your complaining stems from the financial strain of following the trilogy, then why don't you get your rear quarters off the couch and get a better paying job, slacker? No one buys a console system for one entry o*****ame trilogy, they buy the system for the whole of the game library. Gaming is a business, if you can't afford the costs, then you just don't play. P.S.~ Good luck with your remaining stretch of puberty.
here's an idea: PLAY MORE THAN ONE SERIES AT A TIME

Halo is not a good trilogy. The other two games you metioned are. Even though the other games were not made, for me does not make the games themeselves bad. On a side not. I know there were a lot of graphics issues with Advent Horizon, but it was by no means so bad that at the mere mention of it we know your talking about a bad game, like say Superman, or ET for the atari. Get off you high horse your not there yet You don't support you ideas with any genuine support related to you audience. And it seems like a rant. This is one of the worst articles I read on this site, and I don't know how it made it to print, or whatever you would call that in this format
this is a load of crap and buy the way i spent 240 bucks and im proud. i cant wait for xbox live on it . it will be the sicest thing ever. and guitar hero is already a four part serious cause they cant fit 200 songs on 1 game. i jst think you guy s are rong
I would love to see less trilogies and see games with more content instead. When you are shelling out $50 for a game, beating it in a week or less is quite sad, especially since you have to wait so long until the next story arc. If they do decide to keep them separate, use the same base code and release then 6 months apart. Yes, we don't get updated graphics, mechanics, etc, but at least we actually GET the next arc in a timely fashion. Of course, the chances are slim, as I am not sure if they would make quite as much money that way, which is what it is all about to begin with.
I think that you are missing his point. He is not saying to not make awesome games, but make games a more cohesive, complete experience in one take rather than dragging it out over three chapters just to have "a trilogy." You can still have multiple iterations of an IP over time, but a trilogy is unique in that no specific chapter gives you a cohesive whole. The incredibly obvious cliffhanger ending of Halo 2 makes this point clear. Halo 1 was a pretty complete experience. Had another Halo title not shipped, it still would have been satisfying. But after Halo 2, you have to have a Halo 3 to complete the experience, and until the game comes out, we still have no guarantee that Halo 3 will have that coherent and satisfying ending that a trilogy needs, in which cases, his points are at least valid complaints.
OK WONG!, I dont know who you are, but ur not a gamer, and ur a terrible critic. Where in a new age of gaming. People expect more and more from developers and designers. Me being a devout player of many of the trilogy games and an enthusiastic watcher of many of the great movies. I can confidently say u dont know what your talking about. Its completly understandable that games take so long to create and when it comes to trilogies, i dont see how u expect them to be created any faster. Think about it. A game is created and its going to be a trilogy, You have to create each one while using the feedback from the previous title. If the creators didnt do it in this fashion then the up coming title wouldnt have as many new features and it would be boring. I also quite enjoy waiting for new titles to comeoutin a series. While joining in on the forums and leaving feedback on what i might think this new title is capable of, i feel as though im helping in the development. There are way to many things in creating a trilogy that you obviously dont understand. Time and money are not a factor in awaiting a new arival for any game. whether it be a trilogy or just a new age game. I for one am glad to have such great new technologies and that developers can put so much effort into making games so they can become that much greater than any of the previous. I'm Christopher Danner a gaming and movie enthusiast, and you need to get your facts straight.
