The GameDaily One-Minute Review

The Xbox 360 has scores of first person shooters, but none of them are anything like F.E.A.R. This enhanced PC port, developed by Mech Assault creator Day 1 Studios, combines an eerie, supernatural story with high-octane gunfights. The narrative is a bit weak, but the developers do an excellent job building suspense with scary looking and excellently lighted environments decorated with blood and bodies. But that's not the game's strongest suit. F.E.A.R. is at its best when guns are blazing and people are dying. The level of destruction and the special effects are outstanding, and while the single player campaign is a bit short, the console exclusive Instant Action Mode is a great way to continuously relive battles against the intelligent AI. Plus, the multiplayer component, which features the same old modes found in other shooters (death match, team death match, capture the flag), are a great way to relieve some stress at the expense of hapless opponents. There's not enough new content to attract PC veterans, but for console owners, F.E.A.R. is a delicious treat that should not be missed.
