This just in: zombies are taking over.

There's been a steady trickle of information coming from Valve lately - last week it was confirmation of more Left 4 Dead downlodable content, yesterday it was news of a multiplayer demo for the sequel, Left 4 Dead 2. Total Video Games' recent interview with Valve's marketing VP Doug Lombardi reveals a few additional details about the future of the franchise, including the possibility that owners of the first game will be able to play alongside owners of the sequel:

"[Cross-game play] is something that we're trying to work out right now, the details of it," he said. "So nothing specific to say today, but we understand that it's a very valid thing to be working on and looking at."

Lombardi confirmed that there would be five different campaigns (read our preview of one new campaign taking place in Savannah, Georgia, where we meleed the undead with a frying pan!) in comparison to the original's four -- all playable in Versus and Survival modes. He also noted that PC mods of Left 4 Dead would work in Left 4 Dead 2 "with very minor amounts of work to bring it over."
