You can be my wingman anytime! One of the most seminal guitar pieces of the 1980s is coming to Guitar Hero III. Now if only they could get Danger Zone and Mighty Wings in a future DLC...

Activision today announced a unique downloadable content offering for Guitar Hero III for Independence Day. The Top Gun Anthem will be available for download on July 3, 2008. The DLC for Guitar Hero III can be downloaded for free on PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Top Gun Anthem received a 1987 Grammy Award for "Best Pop Instrumental Performance." Steve Stevens is the track's guitarist, though the song has been falsely attributed to several other guitarists over the years. The Top Gun Anthem is distinct from the other hits from the Top Gun movie soundtrack, which include Take My Breath Away by Berlin and Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins.
