Today, Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan announced that they are co-producing a full-length CG animation movie based upon the Resident Evil (Biohazard) series. Tilted Biohazard: Degeneration, it is expected to release in 2008. Little else is known about this new movie, other than the fact that it will feature "groundbreaking visual effects and a brand-new story line."

Resident Evil is a successful game series that helped establish the Survival Horror genre as it is known today, with over 33 million units shipped in the franchise worldwide. It eventually spawned a trilogy of movies starring Milla Jovovich, with Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse grossing more than $100 million in the international box office. The most recent film, Resident Evil: Extinction, has already become the most successful of the movie series to date in the U.S.
