PS3 to Outsell Xbox 360 This Year, says Activision

Is this the year of the PS3? Yes and no. According to Activision, the PS3 will indeed outsell the Xbox 360, but neither platform will come close to touching the Wii.

PS3 to Outsell Xbox 360 This Year, says Activision

In a conference call following the June quarter earnings release from Activision, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith provided his company's own forecast for how the console wars would turn out in 2008. While Nintendo is still the big winner, Activision does think Sony will edge out Microsoft this year.

The Wii is forecast to sell 15 million units in 2008, compared to 8 million units for the PS3 and 6-7 million units for the Xbox 360. And Sony's PS2, which after all these years is still thriving, is expected to sell a total of 4-5 million units this year.

Additionally, while Griffith did not provide a breakdown for PSP versus Nintendo DS, he did state that the portable market will see unit sales of more than 24 million.

Jaciii, let me hit you with some knowledge. Sony is now only offering one PS3 model in North America which does not have PS2 BC (backwards compatibility), so you'll still need to keep a PS2 on hand if you want to play those games. And the same goes for the rest of the world as of August 27th. Meanwhile, Microsoft is still offering 3 different models to appeal to a much more diverse audience. Also, all Xbox 360 models are capable of 1080p since the update in fall 2006. The only thing is that the lowest end model does not have an HDMI port. Plus Xbox Live is so much better. Xbox FTW!!!!

SO to the idiot saying the ps3 does what the wii does.....you don't have a clue. If the ps3 has all these " high quality games" coming out....why in the world is it the last in total sales. The xbox is expected to be outsold this year...not for total numbers, which makes sense as it is already a more saturated market. and again, I just can't stress enough....the sixaxxis is NOT the same as a wii remote.....it detects which way you tilt the controller...poorly. The wii has 30+ accelerometers that detect which way it titlts....orientation, distance from the sensor bar, speed etc. Its like saying a unicycle does what a car does, cuz "hey, it rolls a wheel".....poor ps3 people...

OK PEOPLE THIS IS HOW I SEE IT. THE XBOX 360 DOSENT HAVE BLUE- RAY, THERE ARE ALOT OF OLDER UNTIS OUT THERE THAT AREN'T 1080P COMPATABLE(AM I WRONG HERE DID THEY UPGRADE THE OLD BOXES?) THERE ARE MORE GAMES OUT THERE FOR IT. THE PS3(MY CHOICE) HAS BLU RAY($300 OPTION) CAN PLAY OLD PS2/PS1 GAMES, HAS HIGHER QUALITY GAMES AND MORE POTENTIAL AND MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW IT'S CONTROLER DOES EXACTLY WHAT THE WE DOES, YES PEOPLE YOU CAN THROW THE BOWLING BALL JUST BY HOLDING THE CONTROLLER AND MOVING YOUR ARM(HA HA IF PEOPLE WERE SMART THEY WOULD REALIZE THIS AND NOT BUY THE WII !). THE WII WELL IT HAS INFERIOR GRAPHICS AND IT'S REMOTE CONTROL GAMES ARE NO BIG DEAL THE PS3 HAS THE SAME OPTION ON ALL OF ITS CONTROLLERS. THINK I AM KIDDING LOOK IT UP! Let's face it, everyone and their grandma bought an XBox 360 either when it launched, when Halo 3 launched, or when GTA IV launched. If Microsoft plans on pulling ahead, at least beat the PS3 this year, then they need to tap into a large audience they have barely touched yet. Japan. Japan thrives on 3 things: Anime, Inovation, and Sex. When the 360 first released, it thrived on violence, and violence alone. And Viva Pinata.... If Microsoft plans on winning this year ahead of the PS3, they will need to make games with any combination of the 3. And with the latest Final Fantasy coming out soon, that can at least boost sales in Japan somewhat, for people who don't already own one in Japan.

thats because everyone already has an xbox. and those who don't are getting one. ps3 still doesnt have nearly as many sales so who cares

console sales mean nothing, if you want that system by now you already have it. all the revenue is coming from game sales

who cares about console sales ? by this point if you want the console you have it......the game sales is where all the revenue is coming from anyway

xbox 360 is more affordable, lighter, and has better games than ps3. many people bought the 400 dollar ps3 when it came out just to have the $600 dollar blu ray come with it. just my opinion, not shootin for criticism. and although ps3 games are in HD i dont find much of a difference.

Well Xbox 360 already has so many people with it, so what does this matter? I don't think Bill Gates will cry over this. Microsoft also said that it has like one person joining LIVE every 5 seconds so this doesn;t matter
