Namco Bandai today posted the results for the fiscal period that ended September 30. The game publisher posted sales of 172 billion yen ($1.91 billion), down nearly 10 percent over the same period last year. At the same time, the company posted a 6.04 billion yen loss ($67.2 million), compared to the 1.28 billion yen ($14.2 million) profit posted during the first six months of fiscal 2008.
Software sales were 8.4 million units, down slightly from the 8.9 million from the first half of last year, though software revenue was flat at 29.5 billion yen ($328 million). The best selling title for the period was Ben 10: Alien Force, which sold sold 480,000 units across four systems, followed by Afro Samurai which sold 420,000 for PS3 and Xbox 360 and Tales Of Vesperia selling 410,000 copies, again on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The game publisher expects the recently released Tekken 6 will lift the company's fortunes and increase the company's total software unit sales to 25.7 million units, up from the 23.4 million units last year. Namco Bandai expects sales to be 400 billion yen ($4.45 billion), slightly down from the 426 billion yen ($4.74 billion) last year, with decreased revenue of 8.5 billion ($94.6 million) from 11.8 billion ($131 million) in 2008.
