Earlier this week Jeff Yapp, executive vice president of program enterprises at MTV Networks Music Group, hinted at his company's "next big announcement, which is coming up fairly quickly," and is apparently "a move to a whole other realm." While we all wait for this announcement, Yapp's colleague, Mika Salmi, head of digital at MTV, said at the Reuters Media Summit that Rock Band is "flying off the shelves."
"It's fantastic. Downloads are going great, Rockband.com is going great with people logging on and downloading stuff from there," Salmi said. "It's got a lot of legs, we're in it for the long term."
MTV executives also told Reuters that they are already "in early-stage development to build on a Rock Band platform of services and games, and would look at other music-gaming genres." Whether this is another reference to the "big announcement" is not clear at this point.
"We have a lot of plans for the way it's going to keep rolling," MTV Networks CEO Judy McGrath further teased, adding that developer Harmonix has already started working on yet another music-themed game for MTV.
