While the current generation of consoles is in full swing, there are some gamers out there clinging to the previous generation. That's somewhat easier if you're using the PS2 since Sony continues to support the aging platform, but Microsoft long since abandoned the original Xbox. Today, the company officially put the final nail in the Xbox's coffin by announcing that service repairs for the original Xbox system will no longer be available, for those systems that are now out of warranty.
Microsoft is, of course, encouraging owners of the first Xbox to finally upgrade to the Xbox 360.
"Any other technical support, documents, and content, however, will continue to be available to all our customers. Although Microsoft is ending repair services for the Original Xbox, an upgrade program and support will be maintained for Original Xbox consoles that are still under Warranty," reads the company statement. "...If you have an original Xbox console that is in Warranty that requires a repair, you will be able to submit an exchange request for an upgrade to Xbox 360 online."

NO! NO! They REALLY need to make better games backwards compatible. Especially if they're gonna do this.
hey kids go tell your parents to buy a 360 and tell them to pay everything even if it has a error so it dos not matter
i have a xbox 360 only and i have had to send it in 2 times and about to send it in a 3rd because it has a error e 74 but i love everything else about it
Got to love the extraordinary steps micro&soft will go to in order to keep their sales numbers up for the 360. They know the sales of the PS3 here in the states is catching up fast (it has already far surpassed 360 sales in Asia) and they need to figure out some other way to keep the claim that they have sold more units... Like others have said, why upgrade from a perfectly working system to one that is known to still have a rather high rate of fail?
**** poor people, 300-400 dollars isn't that hard to get Trade in your xbox and all your xbox games into gamestop and buy a ****ing 360
we have the box and the box 360 we havent had no problem with the xbox but we have had problems with the xbox 360 it the second one for my family the first come on and said errr all the time
just go and trade in your defective 360 to place like gamecrazy and gamestop or ebgames if microsoft refuses to repair for free .... and get the resident evil system because it has the new chip set so it shouldn't go defective ....
This might sound crazy but I have bothe 360 and xbox and the older one works better!
haha....my dad has both Xbox and the 360, he's never had to send the Xbox in for repair, but he has for the 360! The only thing that went wrong with the original was the paddles it came with, but those are replaceable....hard to find the wireless ones though...but at least there isn't anything wrong with the system!
GameDaily seems to forget that finally ending service repairs for a system which isn't even getting any new games anymore IS encouraging people to upgrade. GameDaily also seems to forget that Sony did a similar thing when they made PS3s unable to play PS2 games, which pissed off a lot of people. My xbox has worked perfectly since I got it. However, I've gone through four 360s.
