While reports had been circulating for the past couple of days, Nintendo CEO and President Satoru Iwata confirmed that the Wii has shipped over 50 million units worldwide. No word was given on the sell-through rate of the console.

"The last time I talked with you was three years ago, before the launch of Wii. The global video game market has changed a lot since then." said Iwata. "It's even beyond what we possibly hoped for; global shipment of Wii is more than 50 million. That makes Wii the fastest selling video game hardware in history."
