United Business Media (UBM) has announced that its CMP Technology has been restructured into four separate businesses, in order to increase "agility and responsiveness to distinct customer needs, while providing even greater access to the global resources of United Business Media." In addition, UBM announced that the CMP corporate name will no longer be used.
The four new brands include TechInsights, Everything Channel, TechWeb, and Think Services. The last one was previously known as GDIG (CMP's Game, Dobb's, ICMI Group). Think Services, headed by CEO Philip Chapnick, is comprised of the Game Developers Conference, Gamasutra.com, Game Developer magazine, the International Customer Management Institute, HDI (formerly the Help Desk Institute), and Dr. Dobb's Journal. The company has global revenues over $65 million a year and boasts that it "connects specialized communities worldwide using innovative media, educational events, consulting, training and certification."
Part of this includes Think Services' Metaverse Group, which utilizes Second Life along with the web "to reach global markets while leveraging Think Services' trusted brands to acquire highly-qualified audiences and bring them into the online virtual world." Think Services is actually the first global media company registered by Linden Lab as a full-service content developer in Second Life, the company noted.
