In celebration of Bungie Day, the developers of Halo are hosting a full days' worth multiplayer matches, through which skilled gamers can get ahold of Recon armor, the shiny silver suit previously only available to Bungie employees and competition winners. Those who miss out on their chance to snag the armor today will also be able to unlock it when Halo 3: ODST drops in September by completing Vidmaster challenges in both ODST and the original Halo 3.
Additionally, Bungie posted screens from three new multiplayer maps (Heretic, Citadel and Longshore) that will be included with ODST.
Why today of all days, you ask? Fans of Halo are familiar with the signficance of the number seven in the series (if you don't, here's a quick primer) -- there are seven Halos in the universe, Master Chief's number is 117, etc. Naturally the seventh day of the seventh month would be the prime date for Bungie's mock holiday. Bungie Day has been celebrated on July 7 since 2004, which the developers kicked off with a tour of their studios (video embedded below). Recent Bungie Days have brought the first look at the newly unveiled Brute Chopper vehicle (2007) and the free Cold Storage map for Halo 3 (2008).

Yeah, there are like 80,000 people playing, the chance that you get paired up with the 1 team from Bungie is not very high.
