According to MCV, the British Minister of State for Culture, Media and Sport Margaret Hodge recently ruled out tax incentives for the gaming industry at the recent London Games Festival. She was, however, mostly filled with praise for the industry and its contributions in the U.K.

"You are the top of the league when it comes to our creative industries, bigger than film or music," said Hodge. "You have important social and economic challenges with no easy answers, but the Government now recognizes the importance of your business."

Hodge also stated that the government would step in if they deemed self-regulation to be failing. She also spoke directly to the industry's ongoing PR battle.

"To deal with other negative MPs, I suggest you set up an all-party group," commented Hodge. "Find some MPs who understand your business. Get them on board and working for you within Westminster. And to ensure a sensible discussion about social responsibilities, I would also encourage you to get closer to the children's charities."

"But as for criticism from the media, well don't be so surprised. You're a competitor of theirs aren't you?" she mused.

Clarification: A spokesperson contacted us to let us know that "Margaret Hodge hasn't ruled out the idea of a tax break for the computer games industry in the U.K. She is looking at what else can be done to help to industry but hasn't ruled out tax breaks."
