For those of you wishing the Nintendo Wii had a little bit of an edge, your wishes are Nintendo's command as it rolls out a sleek, black Wii on August 1. If you live in Japan, that is.

Too bad this sleek Wii isn't coming to the U.S.
We contacted a Nintendo representative as to when and if this sexy system will arrive Stateside, and he says there are "no plans to have other colors of Wii in the U.S."
That's too bad -- the edgier look might help quell legions of core gamers who feel neglected by Nintendo's focus on making the system (even its color) as inviting to the 'lite' gamer as possible.
Then again, time will tell. If the black Wii is a big hit overseas, then Nintendo muckity mucks might be compelled to bring it overseas. If history has taught us anything, we know Nintendo releases its gaming systems in a rainbow of colors and limited special editions, like this gold Zelda-themed Nintendo DS, so don't lose hope -- we might be seeing multicolored Wiis before we know it.
