Analyst: Xbox 360 Has 'Lost Significant Momentum'
Signal Hill's Todd Greenwald believes the Xbox 360 is losing steam, and potentially customers to the Wii and PS3. He also thinks Nintendo will have a big surprise at E3.

In advance of E3 next week, Signal Hill analyst Todd Greenwald has issued his own E3 preview note, delving into expectations for some of the major companies. Regarding the big three console makers, Greenwald feels that Microsoft needs to do something to shake up the business. The much rumored price cut to $299 (which has been leaked at numerous retailers and seems all but confirmed) almost seems to be a necessity for Microsoft at this point.
"We think the 360 has lost significant momentum to both the Wii and PS3, especially in Europe, and is in need of both a price cut and new features to bring in mainstream gamers beyond the Halo/Call of Duty/GTA crowd," Greenwald said. "Hopefully, Microsoft will have something else up its sleeve, such as a new motion-enabled controller (to better compete with the Wii)."
As for Sony, Greenwald, like other analysts, is not expecting the company to react to any Microsoft price cut. "We do not expect a price cut on the PS3 just yet - Sony appears to be focused on profitability right now, and actually has some momentum behind it now with the Blu-Ray win, and its strongest lineup of exclusive titles since the console's launch (Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, etc)."
Regarding Nintendo, Greenwald thinks the company may be preparing for a big announcement at E3. "Nintendo has been surprisingly quiet lately, and has not announced any 1st-party Wii titles for the 2nd half. They have hinted that there will be something for the 'core gamers', and we have heard rumblings that there will be a big surprise game that may incorporate a new peripheral, much like last year's introduction of Wii Fit, which came with the balance board," he said.

the ps3 is not as good as the wii for a few reasons. 1 its games are mostly shooters and racing games. 2 while it might be for 'hardcore gamers' i think most 'hardcore gamers' would go for the 360 for its better seletion of hardcore games. 3 the next console war and this one will be won by the system that best opens up to casual gamers.

ok, this is how you know these 'hardcore gamers' are losers. "Wii SUckS!" "PS3 is better" "no Way the Wii60 is gonna lose to ps3!" AHEM!!! Don't forget game geekdom, Sony did a superb job in the last console wars. That doesn't mean that Sony is completely out of the competition. And the Wii doesn't suck, you suck for being so self conscience for playing around with a stick. what are you afraid of? somebody calling you ***? ANYWAYS!!! the reason why the Box might not be doing too well has got to be the fact that it was released much earlier than the other 2 systems. granted, it still boasts the largest library from the other 2, and it is still a networking system, so the market for that kind of system is still strong. on the other hand, the Wii and Playstation cater to another gaming audience, and not just children, but older people, casual gamers, and in the case of the playstation, the REAL HARDCORE!!!! God Of War 3 is about to come out, and Final Fantasy 13, and those are titles on that hot seat that people will buy a PS3 for.

Ohh please, I dont see the Xbox running out of anything. The system is good, the game selection is nice, price is low, and the online play is the best. The ps3 is basically a blue ray dvd player thant coincidently plays games. It costs way too much. The Wii, cmon seriously. IMHO I think the Wii is garbage and I wouldnt waste my hard earned money on it.

Sony isnt making much of a profit when it costs about 2xs or 3xs that amount to make one console.

Um...i can understand the 360 being in second place behind nintendo but them losing to Sony?! the 360 has a long list of great games out on shelves right now and with Square making at least two exclusive rpgs the 360 ain't losing to sony...Just yet. i think the console still has alot of life left and there's still E3 where microsoft can announce and show some surprise games in the works. Oh! and for the record sony has already lost 3.3 billion for every ps3.

How is Microsoft going to lose the consule war to sony (I can see how they could lose to nintendo by a little) I mean just cause they have Killzone 2 , and Resistance 2 comming out doesent mean they have a better collection of games than the XBOX. I mean they are all talking about Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, but Microsoft might becomming out with the more impressive titles this fall with Fable 2, Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, Viva Pinyata 2, and maybe one of the most awaited game's of the year with Gears of War 2. Also Microsoft is have a big price cut with the system making the best the 360 $100 less than the cheapest PS3 system

Price cut will definitely help -- people want value. Then again -- PS2 hit is big b/c it was a DVD player, will the PS3 be able to win the console wars using that same tactic again? Blu-ray is the way!
