Recent rumors regarding Ubisoft's upcoming release of Assassin's Creed were confirmed on Monday as the company unveiled that actress Kristen Bell will voice a key character in the game.
Bell, best known for her new role in the hit TV series Heroes and previous accolades including her lead role in the defunct TV series Veronica Mars, has never lent her voice to a video game project before; she does voice a character in the CW series Gossip Girls. Her inclusion into the game should be rather interesting considering the relative lack of blonde-haired females with blue eyes in the area (Jerusalem, Acre & Damascus) at the time. Yet, she's been quoted by IGN TV last year as saying that a portion of the game is focused on events regarding a science-based company doing something like gene research in the future.
"It's something completely different than what I've done before, so it's cool I get to branch out and try another entertainment medium."
Assassin's Creed, set during the Third Crusades in 1191 AD, depicts an ancient area in and around the Holy Land where assassins work to suppress hostilities on both sides of the conflict. As the lead assassin, Altair, players wield the power to end or continue the suffering by killing nine historic characters.
"It was crucial to find an actress who could convey the emotional range and talent needed to play this key character in the Assassin's universe," said Jade Raymond, producer for Assassin's Creed. "Kristen Bell is a remarkable actress who was able to bring her character to life in a dynamic way that I don't think anyone else could have done properly. Her professionalism and dynamic personality were a perfect fit for this project."
The game is due to sneak up to retail shelves in North America later in November 2007 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $59.99 and a limited edition package for about $69.99. EBGames.com reports that the game will be available on November 13, 2007. While the game has yet to release, the Japanese-based video game publication Famitsu, renowned for its extremely conservative rating system -- especially for games created outside Japan gave the game high-praise with a 37 out of 40 score.
