Latino Review is reporting that Gore Verbinski has decided to not helm a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. A fourth movie in the $2.6 billion dollar grossing series reportedly has Johnny Depp attached to play Captain Jack Sparrow for a 2010 opening, though it is unknown if this announcement will change those plans.
"I had a fantastic time bringing Pirates to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team," said Verbinski. "I'm looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future."
Verbinski will instead be working on other projects that will include BioShock. He is expected to direct the John Logan scripted, Universal Pictures film when production begins sometime in 2010. Verbinski has spoken about the creative process at D.I.C.E. and has shown a great deal of interest in the gaming industry.
