Variety is reporting that Len Wiseman is set to direct the Gears of War movie. The director of Underworld and Live Free or Die Hard will develop the story with Chris Morgan. The comic and movie writer's credits include The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and the upcoming Wanted.

New Line has the rights to the Gears of War movie, with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey producing under the Temple Hill brand. Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski will consult executive produce the film. It is expected that the continued development on the film will push it back from its originally intended Summer 2009 release, but Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, doesn't see a problem in it.

"It's like with our games, you can have it right or have it right now," said Rein. "We want to get it right. There's no timetable for us. We just want to make as good a movie as we can, and we think (Wiseman's) the guy who will do it."
