In a new post-launch Gears of War 2 interview at ShackNews, Epic Games' Design Director Cliff Bleszinski commented briefly on the as yet unannounced Gears of War 3. He said that Microsoft was wrong to call the Gears franchise a trilogy.
"We're in a wait-and-see mode with Gears 3. I almost got into a little bit of a tiff with a journalist a couple weeks ago who sat down and was like, 'You said Gears of War would be a trilogy,' and I was like, 'I never said that.' Some random person at Microsoft made a comment like a year ago about something like that. That is absolutely not the case, and we are taking it on a game-by-game basis. I think if you come out and say your game is a trilogy, it opens you up to a certain amount of cynicism that can just backfire on you," he said.
"...you can call me whatever the hell you want as long as you give Gears 2 a fair shake. Call me a f***ing douche."
Indeed, another Microsoft franchise that has been deemed a trilogy from the start is Silicon Knights' Too Human, which has already received a fair share of cynicism and lukewarm reviews for the first game.
Bleszinski continued, "So we'll see how the sale increase for this is, we'll see how the review scores are, and then we'll make the official call on what we're doing. But I can tell you, narrative-wise with Gears 2, we do answer a lot of the burning questions that people have."
Epic doesn't need to worry too much about sales; Gears 2 quickly sold through two million units in its first weekend and there's a good chance the game could be the top selling title this holiday season.
When asked about his ideas for Gears 3, Bleszinski responded, "I have ideas about everything, man. I have other universes I want to do too. I'll tell you what we're not going to do--we're not gonna be making a Wii game, we're not going to be doing an Xbox Live game, we're not going to be doing Jazz Jackrabbit, we're not going to be doing a f***ing puzzle game, and we're not going be making a Gears of War RTS. [laughs]

"Every single person--nobody is sitting around Epic going, 'Hey what do I do now? I've got nothing to work on.' Everybody has all sorts of stuff to be doing. People are like, 'Yeah, why don't you do a Gears platformer.' It's like, are you high? We're all swamped, man. We're hiring as much as we can."
Earlier in the interview, he also had some interesting comments about his role as promoter and observing reactions from forum dwellers to quotes that are taken out of context. "I'm a masochist for reading message board comments. I'm like, 'Ooh, there's a quote from me that's been taken out of context that makes me look like a smug ass****, let's read the comments.' And you know, half of them are like, 'Ahhh I hate that guy,' and half are like 'Ahhh I love him.' Like I said recently, you can call me whatever the hell you want as long as you give Gears 2 a fair shake. Call me a f***ing douche."

I agree with the lag issue, but perhaps not the rest of the arguement. They put more storyline into it I felt, the ending made you feel like "S***, why was that bad?", and the only reason you felt that it wasn't that difficult is because you're probably such a hardcore gamer, Faintlight, that you've learned every trick to Gears in the book. Not saying being a hardcore gamer is bad, but don't go elitist and start swearing at the guy because you play it every ***ht and can swamp the bots like it's nobody's business. Other people play it too and not everyone can do it quite as well as some of us. Yes, Insane should pretty much force the players to team up with others. Hell, I'd like to see another 4 player co-op game come out of the gears guys if the lag issue can be fixed. But the first two difficulties are good and hardcore could use a partial upgrade.
lol you guys are hilarious
You're a moron 'faintlight'. Firstly, what the hell did you expect? Gears 2 was just as, if not more difficult than Gears original, the story was more intricate and the visuals were even more stunning. Also, in the future, perhaps when you feel so enraged about something you need to use little "*" marks every sentence, then try and include punctuation where and when necessary. If I didn't find your comment so amusingly, pathetically stupid and poorly written I wouldn't have bothered struggling to read it, but it was very funny. It's probably why nobody up until now has bothered to point out how stupid you are. P.S. Everyone hates you.
and wow i put spaces through all that... now it looks like a wall..... READ IT ANYWAY not my fault they dont know how to put spaces on the stuff i put spaces on
You are a Douche and dont make a gears 3 you should have stopped with 1 and followed the Final Fantasy advent children way and punked out and make a movie cause your ideas suck.... you awnsered no questions the gamer had about the story your following in the exact footprints of Halo.... 1, was awsome 2, sucked donkey Balls 3, is going to be toned down so that a 8 year old can kill everyone with a pistol My points 1st game was a absolute masterpeice no complaints except your glitches you guys cant seem to fix. (Yes every glitch in 1 is still in 2 besides crabwalking) 2nd. you post dramatize a story around fenix when its not really even fenix we care about why focus on his dad sure... good opening to the first leave it at that.... (AdamFenix)"What Have you Done" Stupidest ending in my life and i have played games for 17 years yes it looks amazing i am happy with the graphics and some of the new bosses but common GIVE US A CHALLENGE if i cant be your game alone on hardcore its to easy hell i beat halfway through insane by myself with dying 5 times.... thats to dam easy.... i dont know who you are and i dont care your making money off of us and if we arent happy there goes your BMW and infinity swimming pool you Pompass ass You take a game and make it how you want it... we dont want your game we want your multiplayer maps guns and character models we will then take it and make it into somthing we as the masses want "Its not your job to tell us how to play its your job to make the game we will find our own way of playing it" i am tired of submission and i fing hate king of the hill i get on to kill people not play tag. and why does it matter what map we wanna play on if you make all your maps decent then we will play all your maps but if you only make a couple decent maps WE ONLY WANT TO PLAY THOSE DECENT MAPS stop forcing us. A population does not like being forced into anything this includes the maps and modes we have to play on. your multiplayer takes 20 mins to find a match and then its almost a 1 in 4 chance of being so laggy i am forced to go to dashboard.....(FAIL FacePalm Yourself) all in all i hope you enjoy your **** cause where you make money we loose money on a poor game.... this wont even last me untill christmas its so easy and MULTIPLAYER is ruined by your ideas. retire and let someone else make the next 1 if you decide to then maybe he wont be a DipSh** and deliver us more sh**
