Xbox 360 Death Toll Reaches 2.9 Million

Red Ring of Death

GameDaily BIZ reported yesterday that one online warranty company says that the failure rate for the Xbox 360 is 16.4%. Based on Microsoft's console numbers of 17.7 million consoles sold (Microsoft's official sold into retail numbers through December 2007), that would mean that there are 2,902,800 defective consoles sold since the Xbox 360 released.

While most of the GameDaily team has experienced their personal turmoil with the Xbox 360's fabled red ring of death, one staff member takes the lead with four dead consoles. What about you?

If you get the Ring of Death, just wait to get it fixed. It's not like you staying alive depends on you playing Halo for hours on end every single day. You CAN always go outside and play in the snow or go for a walk with your dog. Even going to a friends house to play on their 360 with them wouldn't hurt any ^_^.

Guys, it's a video game council, not a lifeline. I have the 1st Playstation model, do you see me whining about it? NO. If something happens to it,buy a new one or find something better to do.

pamemws u sound stupid on that comment becuz sony was more concerned about gamer life than microsoft so thats bein the best bein the best isnt rushing something out to ppl just so they can have it, then later its messing up and ppl have to get it fixed and all of them had problems ps3 only problem was that it wouldnt update so u couldnt get online wit it but u could still play ur games and that was fixed in llike 3 days so sony is the best not microsoft about wat they did

The Xbox like many other american pieces of technology, all show their fatal flaw, in that need for power. Just like american cars guzzle gas for a extra inches of torque, The xboxs problem is power regulation. You think a company as inovative as microsoft would have learned long ago about balance.

Get a newer model 360 because there are no rtings with, because of the smaller hardware/ chip that use less power.

Regardless if these red lights are minor problems, there are far too many cases of them. Besides, there are people who have little knowledge in repairing Xbox360s who own them & to them, seeing these lights can mean that they're loosing their system for a week or 2. A quality piece of equipment is not going to have problems as often.
