Miyamoto dodges criticism

Once again, the games press failed to do its job. At a Nintendo developer round table, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto fielded questions from his adoring fans. One brave soul called out Wii Music for being more toy than video game, and instead of responding intelligently, Miyamoto replied that, "Yes, Wii Music is a toy, which is why it's better than a game." This ridiculous put down immediately drew cheers from the press, which resumed asking brain dead questions that in no way challenged Nintendo's decisions. For once, we'd like to see lots of journalists (including us) ask Miyamoto and the rest of the company thought-provoking questions that force them to address potentially horrible decisions. As for Miyamoto, this is a guy that's never fielded a tough question in his years of game development. His failure to take criticism puts him on a pedestal that even the President of the United States cannot reach. If you're a game journalist, wake up and take your job seriously.

If it wasn't for Smash Bros, Metroid Prime, and being the cheapest system, the Wii would get no love from me. I'm starting to think I should gambled my $250 to get enough money for a PS3. And why are Booth Babes banned?

I agree. Nintendo has had such a long and admired existence that people have become complacent with its trends, no matter how absurd they may be. Each release, whether hardware or software, seems to be met with unabashed enthusiasm and considered by many to be the “future of gaming.” This attitude towards a company that obviously holds little value towards its oldest and most experienced fans is only going to hurt the industry. Without critical input from both players and press, true advancements in technology and design will never be made. What will Nintendo’s target audience be in two years? How about ten years? I sense that Nintendo will inevitably return to its original product that appeals to the widest audience possible: playing cards.

@autigers1994 -- Yeah, booth babes. You'd be hard-pressed to find a guy who didn't complain about them (or the lack of them) at this year's show.

Nintendo's E3 was a huge let-down. I think the only good game to come from NIntendo was AC:City Folk. Other than that, they failed. But...Booth Babes? Complaining about Booth babes?....wow....
