Say the word "hacking" and it conjures up images of soldering irons, complicated computer configurations and Keanu Reeves from The Matrix. Fortunately, you don't need any of those things to run cool homebrew software that will play old-school games or MP3s on your Wii.
Armed with an SD card, a computer with an SD card slot (or adapter), a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, it's just a matter of following these four simple steps to turn your plain old Wii system into something more Wii-tastic
If you want to make an informed decision on hacking your Wii, go to http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/main_page and read up on it. Yes, I'm sure there are people out there coding mal-ware for the Wii. But the people at WiiBrew aren't a part of it. Also, hacking your own products IS legal. Even downloading a ROM is legal as long as you own a copy of the game in its original format. Everyone believes ROMs are just ways to steal games but they're intended to be a back-up for games you already have. And it's legal to download ROMs you don't even have as long as you delete them withing 24 hours. That's the guidelines the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) have set. Some ROMs are indeed fully illegal to download such as Super Metroid. But games you have, if NOT particularly protected by the ESA are legal to download in ROM format. Also, hacking is not illegal as a whole. Hacking maliciously is. Hacking someone ELSE'S computer/game system/iPod or whatever is illegal as passed by the Internet Security Act back in the 90's. I'm not going to rant forever here, but if you want to actually know about hacking and code-sources and what is/isn't legal in the world of computers: RESEARCH. You can even send me an email. I'd be glad to talk to you about it. =)
@yoshikirby222 First off, you don't download hacks for a computer. That's every virus/trojan/worm coder's dream. You learn C++, visual basic, and other codes and code them yourself or have a reliable source do it for you. Secondly, bricking your Wii is a difficult feat to accomplish. Especially using the "Twilight Hack" that this is talking about. It's simple, self-installing, fully functional, and soft/firmware friendly. Team Twiizers hack is impecable. I myself has used it and it makes my Wii very multi-functional. For instance: Thanks to "homebrew" applications for the Wii, there are now Wii game source-code programs. In simple terms: There's a gameshark for Wii. But you have to use this to install it. It's safe. I reccomend it. I use it. I can send videos and screen shots. By far, the best thing I've done as a consumer has been to learn to take my products and modify them to fit MY needs. and as rpgtimmi says: "You bought it, you own it completely." Hacking is legal and, when done correctly, safe and effective. Don't give people bad advice because you basically infected your own products from not understanding code sources and file extensions. Sincerely, A very please Wii hacker.
aragon1128 and firebchaos are right if you guess want to take that chance a screw your well the u go screw it, seirisly you that makes it way less fun and it can not only mess up your wii but your computer too. The only things i download now is from a very noticed company like Microsoft, Yahoo, Google etc......... Im being serius here because once had my own computer and i download a whole bunch of stuff to hack my computer and it messed it up really bad and know it doesn't even run any more so i think you should take my word on this and DO NOT DOWN LOAD THIS!!!!!
What if you had the internet channel and downloaded it from there? It wouldn't work, correct?
This is perfectly safe and legal for all you ones who are saying its not. I installed it on my wii several months ago and haven't got any virus's etc. Also, I researched it before installing and it is perfectly legal as long as your don't use it to run emulators and ROM's.
Everyone here is saying that doing these things will ruin your Wii and therefore be a waste of money. Let's not forget that by purchasing a Wii, you've already wasted your money. What do you honestly have to lose, at this point? I say go for it.
This sucks so Hard
ya know, all u guys sayin this is completely legal I got somtin for ya, I know someone who has been fined for illiegaly hacking his Wii, Ipod, stuff like that. Plus, anything thats free has got something wrong with it and u should know that by now, this hack has probaly got hundreds of virus's just waiting to wipeout your Wii's hardrive. Though how much I want it to be true, this is probaly just a big scam to see what idiots will really risk downloading some file that yur not even sure about, just to play some fricken old games. that means u obsoiete.....
But what if the whole damn thing just screws up your wii? I dont think i would wanna buy another $300 wii or however much it costs again.
u know its funny actually i wanted to really do this but then i decided to take a poll of my friends who have a wii 99% of they 10 ppl said that it is a horrible thing to do and is probably goin to screw up ur wii and make u have to buy another 1! :P and 4 all those losers who think " who cares " don't come crying 2 me cause I TOLD U SO!!!!!
