Xbox 360 launches – Nov. 22, 2005

The seventh generation of home game systems officially starts as Microsoft launches the Xbox 360. While the launch line-up recieves a somewhat muted reaction, the system's limited initial supplies quickly sell out. The year-long head start lets Microsoft gain important first-mover mind share with consumers and, more importantly, gives developers more time to get to know what makes the system tick.
