In older games, there was only one way to take down a boss enemy or structure – the weak spot. For example, check out the first boss in Contra, pictured above. You have to systematically avoid (or eliminate) the surrounding threats before blasting the all-too-obvious glowing doorway. And if an enemy didn't have a weak point, you could just shoot him, her or it.
