Quick Time Events
Although the arcade game Dragon's Lair is made up of Quick Time Events (or QTEs), Sega officially coined the term with its Dreamcast adventure, Shenmue. Little did the company know that the rest of the video game industry was going to copy and abuse its idea. A QTE forces you to make a split second decision to save a video game character and/or trigger an action. One of the more famous ones from Shenmue forces you to quickly press a button to avoid getting hit with a soccer ball. In this case, failing doesn't ruin the story, but you can die in other games, such as the upcoming Bourne Conspiracy. On one hand, QTEs keep us on edge and adrenaline levels high. On the other, developers have overused this feature to the point that we groan whenever a button pops up on screen. Unless there's a way to innovate, the QTE needs to go.

Some valid points, some retarded complaints. A decent article, at any rate.
On the instruments- most are interchangeable, the guitar hero drums will probably become usable in the rock band that follows since they appear to be much better. If you want to make unlocking characters more "multiplayer" friendly, take turns unlocking them, cheat, or play a game that has them unlocked. Separate console characters is not common and further more it's a little bonus to those gamers that buy all of the major consoles. I'll agree on the locations of barrels... but then again there are sometimes reasons for them being in dumb places too. Either way, I think the fact that it's a game and blowing things up is fun is more the issue. As far as mandatory installs, from what I have noticed, there are only a handfull of games that require large amounts of memory, and it's not like it's impossible use other sources to store said memory esp saves. Not being able to skip tutorals does suck but that little trick seems to be on games with either more complex controls or games that are intended for audiences that would be more likely to pick up on them slower. Not to mention, it's not like there are hours of tutoral it usually takes what, 5-15 minutes? On the save points thing, some systems (eg.360) save after any little thing you do, otherwise, you've got a map of the world, finding a close save spot isn't a big deal. and if you don't have time to do a mission then wait until you do... it's not like the chance goes away after a certain period of time. Parts of this article seemed well thought up but every page lacked proper follow up. Gave me a good rant though. I dunno why so many people sink to swearing at this guy, do you have jobs that affect other people? Do they cuss at you for your every mistake many of which are a direct result of somebody else screwing up? Hell he's a very good writer he just has skewed information, if he were to get fired I hope that he gets one that's more up his alley.
Yes, there ARE some valid points, but seriously, you sound more like you're groaning about it than anything. I thought articles were supposed to be informative, not bias and whiny. Sure, there are a lot of instrument games out now, but that's because of the sales. And anyway, the GH and Rockband guitars are interchangeable. You only really need two if you play on planning the Band Quickplay/Tour on Rockband. And you don't necessarily need the specific mic for singing. Any USB microphone, or the headset, works. Explosive barrels in reasonable places would be lovely. As far as the whole save points thing, come on, get real. This isn't the 1980's where you had to go through the entire game without saving. Honestly, it doesn't take THAT much effort to find a save point. Most console games DO come with a "skip" feature for tutorials. However, it's always nice to learn the weaknesses and the purpose of the games before playing. Wouldn't want play blindly and die 5 times because you don't know how to defend yourself properly, do you? They're not spoon-feeding you. They're just giving you a heads up. As far as the unlocking characters..well, duh! It's supposed to be difficult to unlock them. That's why they're unlockable characters. You get rewarded for your efforts. I have to agree that it was much more easier to unlock them on SSBB. And also, there was a way to unlock all of them that only took a little over two hours, that takes little to no effort.
all of yall are pathetic and just flat out retarded for talkin **** about some one who is talking **** about video games. get a life for christ sakes
obviously the author doesnt play games much sounds like a real noob
And for the matter of unlocking characters? Its to add challenge and replay time to the game. If you can't unluck it, then the only thing sucking is your skill. As is your skill in actually having a valid complaint about video games. Tut tut.
Qte, over used? Eh, in most cases it makes things interesting. If its not broken, Don't fix it. In spider man 3, it was great, in resident evil 4 it made things hectic and fun. Don't bash something that has nothing wrong with it. And for goodness sakes, complain about something thats VALID in video games. An actual problem. My advice to you Chris Buffa is don't look for a quick buck, do GOOD editorial. THis is just crap. My faith in the media as it is, is nonexistent. You should be fired. Very very lame.
Well if thats the problem then stop burning money on consoles and start investing in pc's :P you can get bigger hard drives and get more of them as well. Got 3 in my system and lovin it :D
so u stopped playing these games because they have mildly inconvenient features? alotta ur reasons r hella dumb anyways. i really hope u didnt just stop playing hella fun games for these reasons. if u did, ur an *******
GTA was a bad example of bad save point use because Rockstar newly implemented the replay button besides a lot of the missions aren't that long and a lot of other stuff was really stupid overall a really bad article my man.
