bfredericktow...the sad thing is I HAVE actually studied the Bible. In fact, I studied it in a literally un-biased fashion. I have studied several religions in the same way. There is one major common denominator that comes into play in every major religion...domination over the believer's life, mind, body, and soul.
In order for the belief to perpetuate, the leadership of a religion must teach and exert control over the mind (otherwise they might look around and see that their "belief" isn't what they think it is), their body (otherwise you might be distracted from your belief by "carnal" activities), their soul (there's that terrorization....you'll go to hell if you stop believing or going to their place of worship), and the life (every aspect from blowing your nose to getting paid for your work).
The Bible is merely an historical do***ent that tells of events that occurred between the estimated times of approximately 6000 to 2000 years ago. The catch is that history is NOT FACT. History is the story of events of the past in the CONTEXT of the teller. In other words, "history is often written by the victors". So....how much of history has been re-written in the last 2000 years by Christian dogma and Christian-driven historians?
I can give you a history of the world but it would be the history of the world in MY WORDS and, because I am human, I am given to being biased and could color the interpretation. Just as the various authors of the books of the Bible and the translators and publishers of the Bible have done ever since the book's compiling.
If the Bible were the ABSOLUTE truth that Christians claim it to be, wouldn't it be more likely that all Christians believe the very same things all over the world??
Unfortunately, this is far from the case. There are Christians that advocate a violent attitude or revere a vengeful attitude, or believe you must be baptized to go to heaven or be saved, etc...The list goes on and on. Every branch of Christianity is merely a different belief system. You say that all Christians believe the same thing, but that isn't the case. A belief is not based on a singular tenet...it is based on the whole.
Otherwise, if it were based on singular tenets then there would be a lot more world peace, wouldn't there? I mean, after all, there are several similar and identical Muslim concepts that are the same as in Christianity. There are similar and identical ones from one religion to another...Every major religion and belief is based on concepts that have at least one identical tenet to another belief or religion. We could all get a long a whole lot better than we do if we had even that smallest amount of common ground...but we can't because religion ISN'T about singular tenets, its about the entirety of the belief system....
So if Christianity isn't the beacon it is toted to believe, perhaps you should step down from your pulpit and embrace the very real possibility that your belief is a fraud. Perhaps you should take a dose of your OWN advice and re-study the Bible from the point of view of someone who ISN'T a believer and see where the text really takes you. You see, you cannot corroborate history or anything as fact until you have external sources of data to confirm it...and not all of the data confirms it...Go ahead, I dare you to prove me wrong. And by the way, I wish you a peaceful life and a successful life in all that you do....and I don't have to believe in a god to do that...
Live well!

oakd26, I know why I beleive what i beleive, I am not calling anyone names so if any has the desire to insult me it will bare no effect on me. I am responding to the comments directed at me, no matter what is said Christ is my King and there will be no other. If rmax and who ever descide to do otherwise it is their choice, but I will always put the glory of my king out there, if 1000 people insult me, and one thinks about it and it leads them to Christ, what more could i ask for, Once again i have no ill will
Yes, that's what it says in your book which you have convinced yourself is the right one. There is no way to prove which religion is right, it is right because you believe it. I am giving you an outside view. Basically, if you knew what you weren't believing in and why, if anything that would make you a stronger Christian and also give you the ability to share that knowledge to others instead of coming off as misinformed (which is all ignorant means.... misinformed or lack of information). The buddha is not an idol, you are flat wrong there, there is no thing that buddhists worship too. They live a good life in order to have a good afterlife (a very dumbed down version I know), but they do not woship any idol.
bfredericktown I have a question? I worked with a couple Muslims who followed the Koran and they told me that there religionhad them read the bible as well. I forgot why and was wondering if you knew?
To try and settle the convo between rjmaxamjr and bfredericktown. bfredericktown beleives that ceremonial worship, prayer, or even erecting and image in conjuction with spirituality is idol worship. just because rjmaxamjr deos not think it is does not make it so. rjmaxamjr beleive that there are more important things that contribute to our country and morallity than the things bfredericktown states. YOU BOTH JUST AGREE TO DISAGREE. (IM NEUTRAL) AND NAME CALLING ACCOMPLISHES NOTHING ......rjmaxamjr " You aren't a Christian bfredericktown, your an ignoramous..... not believing in things without knowing why you don't."
rmax, once again wrong about me, i have stood up and voiced out, petioned, am a member of American Center for Legal Justice, I voted on people who claimed to be one thing and turned out different than what they said as most americans have, I stand up for children, they are future leaders, if they are becoming perverted at age 12, imagine what the will be like as an adult, it is about every child in our Nation, not just mine and yours, but every child!
Yes, Jesus took everything a step further than God (even though they are technically the same being). The only people who today try and live-up to those standards Jesus set are the Muslim extremists. To not have impure thoughts, they cover their women from head to toe so it is impossible to have an impure thought about someone other than your wife. And yes, they believe in Jesus as well.... so what makes you better than them? By your logic, they are practicing a more pure form of your religion. Yes they kill, but they live in a place where it is kill or be killed. Kind of like Christianity during the dark ages and crusades....
bfredericktown is a hipacrit
samgpld25, I am not judging or throwing rocks, what I am doing is witnessing to the fact that when i lived immoral it brought about shame, discontent, being lost, being with christ lifts the burden of your wrong doing, you are forgiven then live your life for christ, let people know the difference, warning people what life in sin is going to do and were it will lead you is warning not judging, i can not judge you only God can, but i have lived wrong and it was a miserable life, you think your having fun, but in the end it catches up with you, Christ alone can fill you with what you need!
bfredericktown sure spends alot of time checking out the Nude sites for a Bible Thumper but then again half of our ordained preists have too. they spend more time doing the wrongs than they do the preaching of the good things. Bad Bad I believe bfredericktown is probably in the same class.
