World of Warcraft (PC, 2004)
When it comes to the history of massively-multiplayer games, EverQuest beats World of Warcraft by five years, but whereas EQ laid a lot of the groundwork, WOW delivered the concept to a much broader market. Sure, plenty of sheltered nerds play WOW and marry chicks that are dudes, but with ten million subscribers, WOW is the coolest, most hip MMO in the world. Not only did the guys behind South Park do a hilarious parody, but Mr. T endorses the game. If a celebrity says its good, then it must be true.
