Metroid (NES, 1987)
Samus got her start in 1986 and 87, on Nintendo's Famicom Disk System (in Japan) and the NES respectively, where she flew to the planet Zebes to stop space pirates from multiplying dangerous Metroid creatures. The adventure, crafted by Game Boy mastermind Gunpei Yokoi, features a dark storyline, creepy music, terrifying boss characters and of course, one of the first kick butt female protagonists. You can download it via the Wii's Virtual Console.

If you really love Metroid, you have to watch the Retrospective done by GameTrailers on it http://www.gametrailers.com/game/5261.html. Five parts so settle in.
Agreed, i loved super metroid for SNES and ive gotten every Metroid game since then, except for the original gameboy, and the DS, but for GBA, and the gamecube i have them all, gfs brother has Wii's Corruption so i dont need to get a wii/metroid for myself lol. but it would definately be a mistake if they did indeed end the series. if anything they'd probably bring out some sequels, or if samus ever became a parent at some point her child would probably take up the role. but all in all Metroid is more entertaining then Mario, After Mario 3 for NES and Mario 64 for N64/NDS it really got stupid, Mario Galaxy isnt all that bad though but i prefer Metroid.
Samus ROOOOOOOOCCCCCCKKKKKSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The world needs Metroid 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Metroid is my passion in life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nintendo, get off your fatt lazy butt and give us a 3-D sequel to Fusion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not my fault I'm too young to make one myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
to enkou610 Yeah. If this series stopped it'd be one of the worst mistakes Nintendo could make. Right now I'd say it is their best series along with Fire Emblem and maybe Zelda. (not a super big Zelda fan but all of these are better than the completely over done Mario series).
Man I loved the metroid games. All i can hope is they don't stop. I'm a hardcore metroid fan, so i hope they make some more games. And i'm sure some of you other fans agree.
You guys can shut up now since it looks like they fixed the damn typo. As to my opinion about the article, this actually isn't half bad. I think it should have more details than what is mentioned about some games and somethings are a tad off. First off, it isn't an evil clone in Metroid Fusion. It is an X Parasite who has taken Samus' old Varia Suit. Second, the bosses of Metroid Prime 2 aren't impossible. Anyway, not a bad job this time but still could use more stuff to make it more interesting.
@Powerfulone87: If someone didn't catch that on one of their first drafts, I weep at the quality of GameDaily, which is already draining down the sink.
Um Hey you women on your periods. It's called a Typo. Typing Bob Fett instead of Boba Fett doesn't mean the person requires research because they MISPELLED a freaking word. And INFINITECYKOSIS: With sentences like this one: "Why do you still have jobs for?" I wouldn't be calling anyone a moron less thee brings attention to thine self. Got it? It's one thing to have a typo, a funny one at that that had me cracking up, where you leave off one letter. It's a completely different thing to not know how to type a sentence in English.
Well this game will go down in history as one of the best series of ANY on any platform. I wish they didn't make Prime a first person shooter. I know 2D is old news but a 3rd person view would work just as good.
Samus got her start in 1986 and 87. ARCHITECT YOUR A MORON
